Sam Altshuler stuns world No.3 Simion Bobi to claim maiden ITTF Para Challenger title

Sam Altshuler produced one of the biggest upsets in the para table tennis world this year by beating world No.3 Simion Bobi in the men's singles Class 6 final at the ITTF Para Challenger Spokane in Washington, USA. The 3-1 win (12-10, 4-11, 13-11, 12-10) not only gave Altshuler his first Career Challenger gold medal, but also earned 300 ranking points, lifting him to world No.6 in his class. This is a remarkable rise for an athlete who only two years ago never dreamed of competing at this level. In his post-match interview, Altshuler said: "It was a tough match in final, and it was great to get it done." He also thanked his family, especially his parents, for their support throughout his table tennis journey. The final showed his impressive resilience. He saved several set points to take the first set 12-10, lost the second set 11-4, then battled hard to win the next two sets 13-11 and 12-10. His aggressive placement and calmness under pressure were key to neutralizing Bobi's attacking game. Altshuler's next competition is the ITTF Para Elite Spokane, starting on August 11. He will then travel to Yvelines, France, in September before competing at the ITTF Para World Championships in Pattaya, Thailand, from November 13 to 19. The recent victory makes him a strong contender for the world title.
